Give and Take
By Tom Olson
In the face of hardship, aggression, and unfairness, one’s true self is revealed. While many would say that our reaction to this is a justifiable equal amount of aggression and anger, it is proven that our preparation for these events greatly determines our correct and timely response. One that may save us a friendship or our jobs.
Lao Tzu says:
Even to unintelligent treatment
In Kung Fu we train our bodies, minds, and spirits for many things. Culminating in a stronger, healthier, and more enlightened human being. Our continual preparation of ourselves to face adversity allows us to think intelligently about what we are faced with. Our training allows for a fast intelligent response to a bad situation, just as continual training in a sport allows for a fast response to the other teams plays.
At Authentic White Tiger Kung Fu, the system teaches people to give of themselves in the forms of meditation, service, preparation, and physical readiness so that when the time comes where we must take from that training, it will be available and at our fingertips. As all things are give and take, positive and negative, yin and yang, we abide by that, giving in preparation and taking in benefits.
Another great quote from Lao Tzu is:
If you would take, you must first give, this is the beginning of intelligence.
The giving of your time and effort in the school and daily training will pay out in great dividends. One of the best things about Kung Fu is that while striving for complete perfection, we never fully attain it, therefore the chance to continually give never ceases. So intelligently train and prepare yourself for the tests that are put in front of you, as they will only make you stronger and, with the correct attitude, happier. Give of yourself in service and preparation, as what you will take from it will only prepare you for the great things in store ahead of you in your life.
